Free kits
Since 2026
A money class you can hold in your hands.
FinLit Kits is a new nonprofit making free financial literacy kits for classrooms, libraries, and kitchen tables. Paper, plain language, and nothing to buy at the end.
We're a new nonprofit. The first edition is at the printer now — the request form opens the week the kits are ready.
The ledger2026
Kits mailed, dollars spent, classrooms served: coming soon. We'll publish the first set of numbers after the first print run, then update them every quarter.
01 — The kits
The kits are still at the printer.
Topics, page counts, translations, and the request rules will be posted here as soon as the first edition is back from the printer.
Content coming soon
What's inside each kit, how many pages, and how to request one will go here. In the meantime, everything the kits teach is free online in Common Cents below.
02 — Learn online
Common Cents: the free learning center.
The same plain-language approach, on a screen: lessons, calculators, and two games. No account, and your progress stays on your device.
Lessons
Ten short topics, from budgeting to insurance, each with flashcards, a quiz, and a printable activity.
OpenMoney tools
Calculators for budgets, savings goals, debt payoff, paychecks, and compound interest.
OpenMoney Life
A board game about the whole of adult life: 30 squares, 46 real decisions, one to four players.
OpenCoin Quest
The kids' version: run a tiny shop through five worlds and outsmart the Spending Monster.
OpenHalf the people who ask us for help have never been told what a deductible is. That isn't a character flaw. It's a missing class.
03 — Why we print
A photocopier in a Dayton church basement.
FinLit Kits started in 2026 with a photocopier, a stack of paper, and a list of names from a food pantry. We print on paper because paper gets handed to a friend, taped to a fridge, and read in line at the BMV. Screens get closed.
We're new, and we won't pretend otherwise. The first edition is being written by a teacher and a volunteer who has been broke, then edited and read aloud to a room of high schoolers who tell us which sentences sound condescending.
04 — Play
Coin Quest: five worlds, one small shop, one monster.
A short game for the readers who finish the kits first. You keep a tiny shop, catch coins, serve customers, and meet the Spending Monster — every wise choice makes it smaller.
